Original request, moved from Village Pump:
Sir Frank Williams
[edit]Would an admin be so kind as to move Frank Williams (Formula One) to Frank Williams, which was lately a disambig page of dubious value and is now a redirect to the F1 Frank Williams? (The other people on the disambig page were Frank Abagnale, the guy in Catch Me If You Can whose alias was Frank Williams, and a redlink to Frank Williams (actor), an actor in a British sitcom. I mentioned them at the top of the article.) Ðåñηÿßôý | Talk 05:09, 18 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Moved text
[edit]There was a large part of the lead that looked, and smelled, like a copyright violation, and was completely unsourced. So I've removed it. If anyone's interested in replacing it, please do so without plagiarism. Thanks. --Rodhullandemu 00:10, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Proposed move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved to Frank Williams (Formula One) by Vegaswikian (talk · contribs). Frank Williams (disambiguation) was also moved to Frank Williams (non-admin housekeeping closure). Jenks24 (talk) 08:21, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
Frank Williams → a name to be determined – To enable Frank Williams to become a disambiguation page or a redirect to the existing disambiguation page (Frank Williams (disambiguation)). DH85868993 (talk) on behalf of Shakescene (talk) 14:00, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
That formerly-sparse Frank Williams (disambiguation) page now has so many entries (lots of new articles on Wikipedia in the last seven years) that it's become absurd to assume that most people looking for Frank Williams must want this one. For example, I was looking for Frank J. Williams, the former Chief Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court, who's also a published, if amateur, Abraham Lincoln scholar and military commission judge at Guantánamo Bay. Could someone turn Frank Williams back into a disambiguation page, or at least a redirect, and give the current racing-car subject a suitable title (e.g. Sir Frank Williams or Frank Williams (motor racing)? —— Shakescene (talk) 09:09, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - I'd suggest either Frank Williams (Formula One) or Frank Williams (motorsport) as the new name for the article. I believe it's discouraged to include titles (e.g. "Sir") in the article name. DH85868993 (talk) 11:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - Frank Williams (Formula One). Bjmullan (talk) 11:54, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - as I argued above. I was going to suggest whatever was the most likely name for a novice to type in [for example, Frank Williams (auto racing) or Frank Williams (motor racing)], but then I realized that we can make redirects for all of the likely possible tries that wouldn't cover any other Frank Williams. (For example, Sir Frank Williams already exists as a redirect to this article; the same could be done for Frank Williams, CBE, at least until another Frank Williams is initiated into the Order of the British Empire.) So it probably doesn't matter that much which of several good titles is agreed to. —— Shakescene (talk) 14:27, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Note: I've just left a note about this proposed move-back with the originator of the original move at User talk:Rdsmith4. [Seven years on and still going strong, so I guess that's some Wikinspiration.] —— Shakescene (talk) 15:25, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - as per above, for Frank Williams (Formula One) Tiggerjay (talk) 05:36, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
¶ I've created redirects for the other proposed titles, except for Frank Williams, CBE, since I don't know if another Frank Williams holds that title. Also this discussion should probably be formally wrapped up by the closing administrator (User:Vegaswikian} with a hatnote about the consensus. It would be nice if that template at the top said (as it originally did) "proposed that Frank Williams be moved", rather than "Frank Williams (Formula One)"; right now it makes no sense. —— Shakescene (talk) 05:56, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Shouldn't his title/style be Sir Francis Owen Garbett Williams KBE, rather than CBE?
[edit]Being awarded a CBE does not grant one the right to use Sir (or Dame) as a prefix to the forename, however a KBE does allow this privilege. Sir Frank was awarded a CBE in 1987, and a KBE in 1999, in which case should not his full name with titles and honours be 'Sir Francis Owen Garbett Williams KBE CBE'? Children's names
[edit]I've changed the name of the second of Frank's two sons from Jamie to Jaime (which seems to be a common mistake). The source for this is FreeBMD: https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=270288170:1286&d=bmd_1637027742. The births of Jonathan and Claire were registered in the same district (Windsor). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.37.249.75 (talk) 21:33, 6 December 2021 (UTC)
