It is reasonably well written.

"In 1933, the highway from the San Diego–Coronado Ferry to Route 2 (now I-5) was added to the state highway system.[13] This was later designated as Legislative Route 199.[14]" Merge and mention when Legislative Route 199 was designated.

"In 1976, the California State Legislature renumbered the southern section (from I-5 to SR 125) SR 117,[49]" Might want to reword this sentence
