[edit]Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Rambot (talk • contribs) 22:14, 26 July 2003 (UTC)
I provided possible meanings and translations of the county name and corresponding translations, using www.freetranslation.com. You'll find the translation absolutely accurate and worthy of Wikipedia. Rhatsa26X (talk) 23:42, 17 August 2009 (UTC)
- And I have reverted your original research. A very quick search found a source stating that the name "Escambia" derives from the Creek "Shambia". Note that with the tendency of Spanish speakers to insert an 'e' in front of initial sibilants, the Spanish pronunciation would be "Eshambia". -- Donald Albury 12:12, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
