Suggest rename to SS Köln (1899)

The "USS Amphion" only existed April to September 1919 engaged in routine return of troops from Europe after WW I and except for the USN's diligence in recording ships would have vanished into history. The most "notable" aspects of the ship named Amphion were two submarine incidents while operated by USSB as a U.S. Army Chartered Transport. Being an animal transport there are not likely to be many family members of those transported searching for the ship "grandpa" went to the war aboard during those two years. That is much more likely to be descendants (or other interested parties) of immigrant passengers aboard Köln (2) in its service centered on Galveston and Baltimore with occasional runs to Quebec and Montreal. Suggest rename to SS Köln (1899) as best fit.

The most interesting thing about the ship for those of us with deep ship interests is really the example of the types of ships and services they performed during a period of shipping history. What an "awning deck" ship might be and what type of service it might be assigned. What kind of transportation was going on during a period — a surprising amount of animal transport took place in those early steamships as well as immigrants in steerage (my first thought when I saw "Galveston") — with what types of ships. The ship itself is not particularly notable, even with the subs, but it is important as part of the fabric of marine transportation during a particular period. 72.196.202.60 (talk) 13:20, 22 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
