[edit]

Thanks mate. I'm so busy with Aussie articles I'm not sure what I could contribute to Literature articles. I kind of think all my stuff would be POV reviewing type material. But I think your project is tops! Keep up the good work. - Ta bu shi da yu 11:38, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Celtic Tiger

[edit]

I've put Celtic Tiger up on WP:FAC. Please support it! Another Irish Featured Article would be great. CGorman 10:24, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Adminship

[edit]

Congratulations, the Wikipedia community has accepted your nomination for adminship. Please read the relevant policies and other pages linked to from the administrators' reading list before carrying out tasks like deletion, protection, and editing protected pages such as the Main Page. Most of what you do is easily reversible by other administrators, apart from page history merges and image deletion, so please be especially careful with those. Please be especially careful when you ban users, as the policy in this area is complex and there is the potential to create ill will. You might find the new administrators' how-to guide helpful.

Best wishes

Chipsti(cks|x)

[edit]

That might have been me jumping to conclusions, as it is from memory... I'll take a look tommorrow. Tayto Snax are, and Wheelies and Chickatees are definatenly corn starch - had these in the house to check.

Kiand 18:24, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

I'm going to start by blanket mailing possible contributors. Filiocht 12:57, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, I've never been given a barnstar before. I don't quite know what to say. Filiocht 13:33, Nov 10, 2004 (UTC)

Delete Images

[edit]

Hi! I did my first image upload today and I had some serious extension issues. Could you please delete the following images? I've already linked the correct one to Cameron Bright.

The following images need to be deleted:

 • Image:Cameron-bright-jan04.jpg.jpg

Thanks! -- Mgm|(talk) 22:10, Nov 8, 2004 (UTC)

Wikinews demo up and running

[edit]

Hi!

I'm writing to let you know that the Wikimedia Board of Trustees has approved the first stage of the Wikinews project. There's now a fully operational English demo site at demo.wikinews.org. This will be used for experimenting with various review models and basic policies before the site is launched officially in about a week. demo.wikinews.org will become the English version later.

You voted for the Wikinews project, so I'm asking for your participation now. Everything is open, nothing is final. What Wikinews will and can be depends in large part on you. There already is a global Wikinews mailing list for discussing the project. If you are interested at all, please subscribe -- coordination is of key importance. There's also an IRC channel #wikinews on irc.freenode.net. Realtime discussion can help to polish up articles.

If you're looking for something to do, check out the articles in development and articles in review. Or start a new story in the Wikinews workspace, or ignore the proposed review system - it's up to you. I hope you'll join us soon in this exciting experiment.--Eloquence* 01:59, Nov 17, 2004 (UTC)

Hurleys and whatnot

[edit]

Hiya John. Took your advice and followed up on the steel bands thingy and checked around with a few GAA folks. Apparently the steel bands are frowned upon in general but that there appears to be no specific ruling on it. It's largely up to individual clubs. I've modded the article slightly to reflect that. Thoughts?? Pcassidy 22:28, 29 Nov 2004 (UTC) (yeah, I'm a clueless relative-newbie :) )

Hello Ludraman, sorry for rather belated THANKS for your kind welcoming, upon my joining the gang. Some are slow to comprehend. Do keep up the spirit of comradeship! All the best,

Panterarosa (aka Pink Panther)

Hey again, John. Thanks for the reply on the hurleys. I'm going to try to dig up a pic or two of the weapon if I can. Re. Martyn Turner, I've a bunch of Martyn's cartoons on my now-antiquated Carnsore site. They're from the late '70s. Any good to you?

Hey again! Agree on pics re Martyn Turner. Maybe take one of the old '70s ones to balance the viewpoint and detract from the Iraq one a bit. I've added a list of his publications, BTW and edited cats. Will try to snap a few GAA pics this weekend if I can. Pcassidy 18:10, 4 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thank you

For your support, and the nice note on my talk page. Much appreciated! --Woggly 19:59, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Junior Cert

[edit]

I don't think it stands a chance on WP:FAC at the moment. I'll post a to do list on the talk page and we'll work on it over the coming weeks - mainly filling out smaller sections, elaborating on points made, backing up claims etc. - oh and thats a nice graphic you added. Sherlock Holmes Templates

[edit]

Hi, yesterday I tried creating an overall Holmes template, with links to characters, short story books, novels and so on. However, I couldn't manage the formatting and so I listed it for deletion. But, the admin who deleted it left this message on my talk page: I wondered if you/we could work anything out: perhaps some sort of WikiProject Holmes? Drop a note on my talk page,--Honeycake09:14, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Wonderful!! I wouldn't have known how to go about starting it! But...I only suggested the WikiProject because I'd heard of the term elsewhere on the Wiki. What does one do on a WikiProject? Also, has anyone ever checked through Category:Sherlock Holmes? Should we add the WikiProject to Wikipedia:WikiProject?--Honeycake09:49, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I like it! I can't do the formatting, but could you perhaps group the short stories into, for example, the Memoirs, the Casebook and so on? It may make it easier. Thanks very much,--Honeycake17:07, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
I just found The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes!! It's a whole book of more, and they're all listed in Category:Sherlock Holmes short stories (I haven't put the link in in case it puts this page into that category). Why haven't I heard of it? Also, should it/they go into the template?--Honeycake17:49, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Oh, I didn't notice that. I'm still going to buy it, though(!). But I agree with you about the separation of Arthur CD's work with his son's. --Honeycake (The Pot of Honey)

Thanks!

[edit]

Thanks for that beautiful barnstar! Mgm|(talk) 15:59, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

My many thanks to you also for the barnstar! CGorman 18:15, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

John, i've just found out that Indymedia.ie actually wrote a news article about the Celtic Tiger article! See [1] CGorman 20:34, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Im afraid I don't know a hugh amount about the novels or characters... CGorman 20:50, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

VfD/Old

[edit]

Some friendly advice. It's very easy to get burned out doing massive cleanouts of old VfD entries. I speak from experience. Try to pace yourself. -- Cyrius| 03:47, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for the barnstar! Jeronimo 07:55, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Image tagging.

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:BUDDHA2.GIF. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, though. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks! Schissel 23:55, Dec 9, 2004 (UTC)

Naming

[edit]

I was actually just thinking about that, i've checked out how the German and French sports people are orgainised - by last name, so you can fire ahead and change them... I was rushing the job! Sorry. CGorman 22:35, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Oh, don't you worry about me, CG, you just waltz around and do what ever you want, and I'll just come after you and clean up the mess you've made Thanks im a busy man! CGorman 22:42, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Typical of us Irish, getting dragged into a slagging watch while building an encyclopedia of all things :). Seriously, shouldn't Irish business people be Irish businesspeople? You're the one who's done Junior cert English, so I'll leave it to you! Believe it or not I considered this aswell - I intially thought the term businesspeople looked a wee bit funny on screen... but again based on the international norm... im wrong, i've changed the categorization to accomodate this. I'll get nottin done this evening with you around! CGorman 22:54, 10 Dec 2004 (UTC)

There's a question on the reference desk, asking the name of Holmes' second housekeeper (not Mrs. Hudson, but....) Hope you know who it is. Mgm|(talk) 22:46, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

[edit]

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
