Untitled
[edit]I have been bold in editing this page and there are some question marks over what I have written. Strictly speaking, was Soames Equerry to Prince Charles, or to the office of the Prince of Wales? Did Mark Thomas invent National Soames Day and what is the significance of the dates on which it has been observed? Tim Ivorson 15:21, 19 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Fat Boy Dim
[edit]Who first called Soames Fat Boy Dim? Google gave me no search result for "fat-boy-dim soames." Tim Ivorson 12:58, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- p3, The Sunday Times bat 2 months ago - am checking. Cunningham
- If you are reasonably sure that it came from the Sunday Times, then I would encourage you to include that in the article. It would be good to mention the date too. Tim Ivorson 17:47, 3 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Mentioned in The Sunday Times, p3 18 Jul 2004 - Cunningham
- Thanks. I've put it in the article. It's a shame that there doesn't seem to be an online version of that Sunday Times article. Tim Ivorson 14:08, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Date of birth
[edit]Thepeerage.com seems to disagree with The Guardian about Soames's year of birth. When was he born?
Charlie
[edit]Various revisions of this article have referred to the current Prince of Wales by various names. That's ok, but I would like to point out that the article is referring to Charles and not to any old Prince of Wales. If Charles ceases to be Prince of Wales, then Charles will be (or will have been) a friend of Soames and the Prince of Wales might not be. For this reason, I have linked HRH The Prince of Wales to the page about Charles. Tim Ivorson 10:42, 20 May 2005 (UTC)
"Fatty" Soames
[edit]Has been used as a more-or-less affectionate nickname by some. I've heard it from military officers (presumably because of his Defence role) but it might be more widespread. Don't really have enough backup to put it in the main article.
- Its what he's always called by Brighton fans, so... --Kiand 20:50, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
He's known as 'Tubby' Soames to us here in the constituency. There's also a wonderful anecdote (no idea if it's true or not) that says when he was appointed Minister of Food (1992 - 1994) he exclaimed "At last! The job I've always wanted!" 81.5.128.81 21:54, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Alleged Anti Semitism
[edit]Do we have a source for Soames as being the 'unamed senior Tory' who allegedly made anti semitic remarks during the party conference? User:Edchilvers
Title
[edit]Why is he "the Honourable" Nicholas Soames? I thought this was a title for the sons of hereditary peers, which he is not. Intelligent Mr Toad (talk) 08:16, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
"the Honourable" denotes that he is a member of the Privy Council — Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.208.22.14 (talk) 12:38, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
- His father was made a peer, so as a child of his father he would be subsequently entitled to be addressed as The Honourable. It is The Right Honourable that is attached to members of the Privy Council.Cloptonson (talk) 20:27, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
POV
[edit]The article includes a number of disparaging references to Soames, and the hostile tone extends to the talk page. I suggest that the article should be edited by someone who is not a political opponent of his.
Incidentally to say that "Charles later admitted his adultery" is misleading; he admitted that he - like Diana - has been committing adultery after the effective end of the marriage. The evidence shows that Diana committed adultery first, and more prolifically.Royalcourtier (talk) 21:54, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
Continuing Bias
[edit]I feel that this article is quite clearly biased. It is just a list of disparaging references and negative information. This content may have a place here (for example the many intricate and detailed references to speeding offences) as it is accurate - but overall the article is unarguably one-sided and in need of a rewrite and some balance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.99.45.66 (talk) 22:00, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
Wardrobe quote
[edit]'An anonymous woman said that making love to him was "like having a wardrobe fall on top of you with the key sticking out"' [1]

True/apocryphal?
[edit]Hoggart says that Soames gave him the true version of what I had always suspected was an apocryphal story.
- So is the anecdote true or apocryphal? Valetude (talk) 13:38, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
