[edit]To Logologist: What does an "antisemitic painter" mean? That Niewiadomski didn't like to paint the Jews? -- Kpalion 10:04, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Dear Kpalion: Niewiadomski is described in my sources as an antisemite, etc., and a painter, etc. If you feel that that is not inaccurate, I would welcome your views as to how best to express this--assuming that you consider the antisemitism to be germane. I appreciate your contribution to "Gabriel Narutowicz." Logologist.
Re: Logologist
[edit]I feel that "mentally deranged, right-wing, extreme-nationalist, antisemitic" is a very strong and one-sided view of Niewiadomski who was a distinguished arist, critic, professor, who started the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. His opponents might have called him an extreme nationalist, but his supporters (quite numerous) probably called him a Polish patriot, a hero and a martyr. For the sake of NPOV all these views should be presented.
However, I don't think this article is the best place for a discussion on Niewiadomski. Perhaps, you could better expand the stub at Eligiusz Niewiadomski himself? You can use the extensive article in Polish Wikipedia. This would allow you to expand and better reword what you've already written. Take care, -- Kpalion 15:01, 6 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I agree with the above remarks and have accordingly deleted the final sentences. If someone wishes to work up Niewiadomski before I get to him, I'll be happy to lend a hand with the editing, if needed. Could someone check in "Polski slownik biograficzny" for Narutowicz's first-lady status and party affiliation (so far as I know, he was unaffiliated)?Logologist 04:53, 7 Nov 2004 (UTC)
A Rewiew of the Article
[edit]After reading the article a few times, and going over the history of the article, and rereading the article in the other languages that I understand, I wish to do some small copyedits to it. It has a few Emphasises (sic), that are unnecessary, and give it a vulgar and non- encyclopedic quality to it. My changes will be self explanatory. As always, I'll be happy to discuss them on the talk page. Dr. Dan 01:49, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Wasn't Narutowicz
[edit]Wasn't he a personal friend of Pilsudski ? --Molobo 02:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
In fact, his sister-in-law, was Pilsudski's first cousin. Dr. Dan 00:08, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Religion
[edit]The article's infobox states GB was an atheist. Beyond it being personally irrelevant to me, it seems strange (I mean adding the religion, or lack of it, in historical personages' infoboxes). At least unless there is a good and relevant reason for it. Do we have a statement orally or in writing from Narutowicz, stating that he was an atheist? Was he buried from and with the sacraments and ceremonies of the Catholic church? Is his grave adorned with a cross? If so, was this against any expressed wish of his? Move
[edit]How about moving this article to Gabrielis Narutavičius? After all his family was Lithuanian, why do we have to polonize his surname? //Halibutt 22:53, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Go ahead and move it if you feel that strongly about it. As your colleague, P.P., likes to tell us, you are a prolific contributor to Lithuanian-Polish articles on WP. He also reminds us that no one has exclusive "ownership" of an article or its name. It's also always a pleasure to see how you encourage civility and cooperation with your edits on English WP, and your "positive" contributions on its talk pages. So go ahead and move it. Dr. Dan 17:28, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, it would be Gabrielius, if correct spelling matters to you. Dr. Dan 01:22, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
You are being silly. Narutowicz was a Polish citizen and President of Poland. According to all official documents his name was "Narutowicz", not "Narutavičius" which itself is a lithuanizated form of "Narutowicz". The Lithuanians didn't even have their alphabet when he was born, so he couldn't be named "Narutavičius" at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.184.237.247 (talk) 17:12, 19 June 2011 (UTC)
Coat of Arms
[edit]Forgive my non-noble origins, personally I'm not ashamed of that "fact", but what in blazes is the need to tell us about the Coat of Arms of the Narutowicz family in either the lead of the article, or soon after. I mean in the framework of a typical encyclopedia, it's just not done. Consider dumping it. Dr. Dan 23:52, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Constant removal of referenced info
[edit]What is rationale for the constant removal of referenced encyclopedic valuable information like [1][2]. It is well know fact what this person had Lithuanian background. I see no point to delete this info. M.K. (talk) 06:50, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
