This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion of the article below. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record.
The result of the debate was NO CONSENSUS. A majority did favor not having an independent article, however, so perhaps someone should merge it. Somewhere. Postdlf 04:52, 13 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Surely we do not need multiple articles for a song performed by different artists. Gazpacho 07:31, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Merge into "O Holy Night". There is plenty of space there to add the different versions of this song.Delete, on second thoughts this isnt all that notable. Megan1967 07:40, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]- Merge. As Megan1967. Robinoke 08:39, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Merge. I'm sure that umpteen artists have covered this on Christmas albums over the years so it would be good if the most notable versions are listed. Capitalistroadster 11:47, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Please keep this article intact as the way it is. We are in the process of creating an extensive discography on the singles of Mariah Carey. If Mariah had only recorded the song, and not released it as as single, then I would not make a new article, but this article is meant to reflect the production, promotion, sales, and music video of the single too in correspondance to her other released singles. If merged with another article, then this information will likely lose its focus and information. OmegaWikipedia 17:39, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Whatever happens, keep all content. I chanced on User:OmegaWikipedia, a new Wikipedian, writing up major Mariah Carey singles on Special:Newpages the other day. It's maybe a little rough around the edges but very promising and will come to rival our coverage of The Beatles. Whether or not this is your thing or mine, it reflects the original vision for Wikipedia. Samaritan 17:43, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- But why? Carey isnt even in the same league as The Beatles or Elvis Presley in terms of musical influence. She doesnt even write her own songs. What makes Carey so different from Ashlee Simpson when there was a vote to merge her songs rather than keep. JamesBurns 03:23, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Actually Carey does write (or co-write) almost all her songs. Her music overall has had some influence (watch American Idol) although most of the individual singles are not that notable. 4 May 2005
- You are wrong. The vote for the Ashlee singles was to keep them as individual articles. See Pieces of Me, Shadow (song) and La La (song). Everyking 10:12, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

- Merge as noted above. · Katefan0(scribble) 18:45, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
- Merge into a page on her Merry Christmas album. This song never made it to the charts, but the album apparently did. — RJH 19:05, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep with move to O Holy Night (Mariah Carey single). Gazpacho 21:11, 1 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete. This is a horrible precedent, to have an article on every artist's version of every single. RickK 21:23, May 1, 2005 (UTC)
- It would never be completed. Megan1967 10:46, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Thank you again Samaritan for your support and agreed with how this fits into the original vision for Wikipedia. If the article cannot be maintained here, I agree with Gazpacho and would also like to move the article to O Holy Night (Mariah Carey single) as suggested
- Delete. The Mariah Carey articles have more detail than even Mariah herself could care about. Articles on obscure singles are not close to being necessary. 1 May 2005.
- Keep per Omegawikipedian, failing that merge somewhere. Kappa 04:29, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, or move to O Holy Night (Mariah Carey single). Either way, i don't see any good reason to delete this. R Calvete 04:33, 2005 May 2 (UTC)
Notable Merge into "O Holy Night".--Prem 06:31, May 2, 2005 (UTC)- Has no place in O Holy Night. If it were important information, it could be merged into Mariah Carey; since it is not important information it should be deleted. - Nunh-huh 07:54, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- On second thought, I agree. But I do not agree with importance dictating the relavance. Thus, merge into Mariah Carey.--Prem 14:51, May 3, 2005 (UTC)

- Keep article. Delete Maria Carey from my memory. Please! --Gene_poole 06:45, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, the discography being done by Omega Wikipedia is coming along very nicely, and I feel with more work and expansion we could have one of the best series of articles on discographies of artists, merging it into the O Holy Night article wouldn't be the worst, it would probably be best left alone, but definitely do not delete this article, it is perfectly valid information. Ultimate Star Wars Freak 08:04, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, bad precedent. This song is not as notable as any Ashlee Simpson song. JamesBurns 03:23, 4 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, obscure single not notable. Leanne 01:46, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete, not inherently notable. Iam 11:51, May 5, 2005 (UTC)
- Keep There is no good reason to delete it. The article relates notable info on the singles of Mariah Carey. SoSoDef 20:49, 5 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, no valid grounds given (or, indeed, any at all). Also, moved to "... single". James F. (talk) 19:57, 6 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep, strongly. Everyking 10:10, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]
